SHADE
The Shared Awareness and De-confliction (SHADE) group is a voluntary military coordination meeting attended by nations and organisations involved in operations to counter piracy off the coast of Somalia, under international law.
Welcome to the SHADE website. The administration is provided by the Web support team at MSCHOA. If you require any assistance or guidance please email the web support team at shade@mscio.eu.
The SHADE website has 3 principle functions: to provide background information about SHADE and its associated Working Groups; to plan and coordinate future meetings in a single virtual environment and to provide access to archived SHADE records.
The purpose and aim of SHADE
The purpose of SHADE is to discuss and coordinate amongst all parties engaged in, or planning to engage in, Counter Piracy operations, and other maritime security threats, in the southern Red Sea, Bab el Mandeb, Gulf of Aden and Somali Basin areas.
The aim of SHADE is to encourage an open dialogue amongst all actors in the region both military and civilian. SHADE encourages the free and open exchange of ideas from all participants. Comments that are of a politically sensitive nature or negative comments related to the activities of a particular nation are to be avoided.
