ALERT 49/26 MSCIO has received a report regarding the possible hijacking of a dhow while transiting to Kismayo (Somalia). The incident reportedly occurred off the southern Somali coast near position 00°13’S 044°18’E on 09 May 2026. The dhow was reportedly boarded and possibly taken over by an armed piracy group. Operation ATALANTA is currently investigating the incident in coordination with maritime security authorities and regional partners. Vessels operating in the area are strongly advised to maintain heightened vigilance, adhere to BMP-MS, particularly within 150NM off the Somali coast between Mogadishu and Hafun, and report immediately any suspicious activity or information to MSCIO and UKMTO.
