ALERT 40/26 MSCIO has received a report of an incident involving a merchant vessel at 05:30 UTC on 01 May 2026 in position 12°59’N 048°39’E. A suspicious skiff carrying approximately 7 persons, heavily armed, was sighted within the IRTC. The skiff aggressively approached the vessel, closing to a nearest distance of approximately 10 meters and demonstrating clear intent to board. The vessel increased speed. Due to the vessel’s defensive measures and the readiness of the crew and armed guards, the attackers aborted their approach. All crew are safe and accounted for. Operation ATALANTA is investigating. Vessels operating in the area are strongly advised to maintain heightened vigilance, adhere to BMP-MS, and report any suspicious activity to MSCIO and UKMTO.
